Now I’m continue to write a review from previous post for in-life usage.
Need OTA update
First I got a OTA update. It was 2015/09/11 version of base.
OTA was 2015/09/15 contains “Optimized some functions (and I don’t know what functions) of system” and “Fixed some bugs (of what?)”. So I proceeded.
And It became 2015/09/15, and still I don’t know what was changed.
And I can understand it is still version of Android 5.1. It may not kind of 5.1.1.r5 of Nexus series for solve problem of memory leakage. But I hope latest update may solve this.
Antutu Benchmark (v5.7.1)
Antutu score was 20054. It means “I can use it for normal.” as like Motorolla Moto-G series. X5 Pro CPU is not so powerful to run all heavy games on Google Market. It’s just for record my life, enjoying SNS, seeking infromation from web and call. Actually most of casual games are enough to play. Mediatek MT6735P is 64bit ARM based but it runs on maximum 1GHz, and X5 Pro runs on 988MHz. It may saving power requirements – so X5 Pro battery life will increased …
Unfortunately, Open GL ES 3.1 doen’t matter on this device because there’s nothing like cooley enjoyed at MT6735P CPU power… Don’t expect this phone is fast like fastest models.
File system
I was wonder X5 Pro has something different mounting design to using TFlash as maintenance. It is strange but actually don’t care because user can install more and more apps into TFlash. But Internal stroage speed is much faster than most of economic TFlash. (see below benchmark)
Doogee X5 Pro has fast insternal storage than I expected for 74.99 USD. write and read speed is much better than Blackview Alife S1, actually impressed, but real slowdown speed not be appeared on to me, it may be a problem of this phone.
You can remove default installed app
Doogee X5 Pro had nothing like bloatware as we know. Just there’s two pre-installed app for Keyboards to support Chinese and one more (I don’t know what language was..). Actually these apps are not licensed for Pro version with user’s account.
I could simply removed these keyboarads and installed for Google Korean IME to use my language.
I just activate google keyboard and configuration was easy, but it is still buggy in AOSP based devices…
Default running apps
Doogee X5 Pro has nothing like spyware or malware. Checked with most of verified vaccine apps.
Andoird 5.1 may has problem of memory leakage, but it still runs well without abnormal reboot. 2GB of memory will makes many apps runs well. There’s not installed most of Google apps, so it may need to be installed with Google store.
Need to update Google services
According to no default Google apps not installed, It need to doing install for some service apps like Google Play service and Google Webview.
Camera
I don’t expected good camera for Doogee X5 Pro. It almost similar like Motorolla MotoG. It just meaning of it has camera and I could take snapshot in everywhere. But there’s too many functions to adjust camera itself to take more detailed adjustment. See below:
There’s no option to take wide like 16:9. It just takes 4:3 ratio pictures. Only preview has an option to full screen. Video records as 720p in format extention of 3GP. Capturing speed could be adjusted with ‘Zero shutter delay’. and I recommend use option with ‘Anti-shake’ or ‘EIS’ on video.
If you are using shoot a picture for Instagram or Facebook like SNS, it should be nice because result image size is not much bigger than 13Mpixels camera.
Special built-in functions
As like most of today’s Chinese Android phones, they are providing some special function apps. Doogee X5 Pro has AppLock, Auto start block and App permission control.
AppLock of among additional function apps, it helps control personal app control with user password. And you may don’t know first initial password – it is “0000”. And recommend to change password after enter setting activity.
You should control app permissions like Apple iPhone in permission control option of Settings. I recommend turn it on and change access permission of apps like Facebook – I don’t like some apps want to gain access too many permissions even I don’t like to do. (Original Google app don’t allow to turn permission off)
Dual SIM control
Doogee X5 Pro supports dual SIM slots and standby in same time. But I have tested it in same 3G SIMs, and it won’t work together.
Assignment option was activated, but acutal network not allowed to work together of 3G+3G, 3G+LTE and LTE+LTE. It seems one of (normally SIM slot 1) SIM slots is limited to use on 2G/GSM mode. It’s lacking. If you have 2 of 3G SIMs and you need use these in same time, Doogee X5 Pro will not help. I need to switch SIM to call and 3G network every time to use it. I don’t understand why it is dual standby ?
None of ….
And Doogee X5 Pro supporting more functions, but I could not be know, or doesn’t need to know like HotKnot. It is something strange function to share each HotKnot supported device to face each screen to doing something – but I don’t like to do and no device to support it in South Korea.
So NFC or wirless charging, IrDA (infrared remote controller) not built.
I paid it for 74.99 USD in Ali-Express in term of big sale. (Most of shops are sales it in price of 79~80 USD) We could not expect wonderful functions in price of under 80 USD. But Doogee X5 Pro already supports many things to enjoying Lollipop in really economical price.
If you have interested in this smartphone? Just remember these:
- You don’t need more touching on fron screen over 3 points: Doogee X5 Pro support only 2 points of multi-touch.
- You will be like 720p resolution in 5″ LCD.
- You have plan to buy spare battery in Ali-Express.
- You don’t care much wonderful technology for Android devices.
- You already have a primary phone.
If these are OK, you can use Doogee X5 Pro. If not, don’t think about this, it will make you angry. Just pay more to find other, it will be better for you. This smartphone is not doing many things.
